RUSSIAN ALTAI: VIEWS & ACTION
by Vladimir Stolyarov, the Wild Russia photographer

The Altai mountains, 2002:

Pictures were taken during a sport trip around Beluha, the highest Altay mountain. We had almost reached the summit, but the weather changed dramatically and forced us to descent. In fact we were lucky to escape, nevertheless everything was great.

The Altay mountains, 2000:

It was really strenuous but very rewarding trip around the Beluha mountain. While abundance of not bad photographs I'm sorry till now that I couldn't take a picture of our midnight  descendings from high passes under the moonlight.

It was my first acquaintance with mountains. I was 15 years old, I went in school but was an advanced  photographer already. As a result I've entered St. Petersburg Mining institute and become a geologist.
